St Patrick
St. Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland, born in the fourth century was taken to Ireland as a slave when he was sixteen years old.
He lived in the forest and worked with the cattle. After six years he escaped to Scotland and decided to dedicate his life to the people of Ireland. He became a priest and then a Bishop.
In 434 he received the Papal Benediction from Pope Celestine I and was sent to Ireland.
The Stained Glass Windows above the main altar in St Patrick’s church shows Patrick receiving his mission from Pope Celestine I. He died in 469 and was buried in County Down.
